Dr. Fowler is board-certified and a Fellow (FACS) by the American College of Surgeons and a fellow (FASMBS) by the American society for metabolic and bariatric surgery. He also holds a Focused Practice Designation (FPD) in Metabolic Surgery by the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Fowler came to Hawaii in 2004 after completing his surgical training at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
In 2005, in cooperation with Castle Medical Center, the Surgical Weight Loss Institute was founded. Dr. Fowler is the acting Medical Director for bariatric surgery at Adventis Health Castle. In September 2009, Castle Medical Center received the Centers of Excellence (COE) title from the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, ASMBS. This certification is now the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) through the American College of Surgeons.
Dr Fowler is one of the founding members and past presidents of the Hawaii Bariatric Society, a State Chapter of ASMBS. He served as Chief of Surgery at Adventist Health Castle in 2012.
He is acting Chief of Surgery at Adventist Health Castle currently. His practice focus is centered on Robotic Assisted bariatric and general surgery operations.
When not in the operating room, Dr Fowler is usually in the water, be it foiling, surfing, diving, or fishing.
