Bariatric Surgery History
Dr. Fowler is board-certified and a Fellow (FACS) by the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Fowler came to Hawaii in 2004 after completing his surgical training in Los Angeles.
In 2005, in cooperation with Castle Medical Center, the Surgical Weight Loss Institute was founded. Dr. Fowler is the acting Medical Director for bariatric surgery at Castle. In September 2009, Dr Fowler, ALOHA Surgery, and Castle Medical Center received the Centers of Excellence (COE) title from the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, ASMBS. This certification is now the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) through the American College of Surgeons.
Dr Fowler is one of the founding members and past president of the Hawaii Bariatric Society, a State Chapter of ASMBS. He served as Chief of Surgery at Castle Medical Center in 2012.
His surgical practice is focused on laparoscopic surgery and other minimally invasive techniques. These minimally invasive procedures are less painful, result in quicker recovery and fewer complications, and don’t leave large incision scars.
