Report: 1 in 4 Hawaii adults are obese
According to a new Department of Health report, 1 in 4 adults in Hawaii is now obese.
The State spends an estimated 470-million dollars on obesity-related medical costs. That’s a big incentive to encourage people to get healthy.
According to Lowery St. John, “We have almost tripled the rate we had in 1990. If that continues, by about 2030, half the population is going to be obese.”
As individuals continue to struggle with weight loss and obesity, Dr. Fowler believes that treating obesity successfully in Hawaii requires a mutidisciniplinary team approach. Metabolic surgery continues to be the most effective proven option for appropriate individuals.
