Dr. Fowler Trials the New Olympus 3D Laparoscopic Platform
July 1, 2014 Dr. Fowler got to do a trial run and use the new Articulating HD 3D Laparoscopic Surgical Video System during several bariatric cases at Castle Medical Center. No other bariatric surgeons on the island currently use this platform, so once again, Dr. Fowler is breaking another “first” record!
During the procedure using the 3D platform, Dr. Fowler wears polarized lenses which feel like operating with sunglasses on. The image kind of looks like the dioramas that you made back in grade school, providing a depth of vision that aids in the technical movements of an operation.
The first few cases have gone really well and Dr. Fowler was excited to get to try the newest laparoscopic technology!

Hi Franc,
the 3-D platform allows for improved imaging. Although the current laparoscopes are excellent at providing a clear image, better visualization allows for the ability to perform more complex maneuvers and possibly increased patient safety. Dr. Fowler is always trying to stay in tuned with the newest and best technology!
