Obesity is as Bad as Cigarette Smoking for Life Expectancy
According to the online article by Fox News “Obesity as bad as cigarette smoking for life expectancy, study says,” a Canadian study shows that obesity can slash as many as eight years off your life—and leave you in ill health for up to 19 years before that death.
“In terms of life-expectancy, we feel being overweight is as bad as cigarette smoking,” says lead author Dr. Steven Grover in a press release.
This recent finding is not surprising, but actually hearing the data does put things in perspective. Other well-designed studies have calculated 8-12 years of life lost for individuals with a BMI of 40 or higher. This report provides more argument to the idea that obesity is a disease state injurious to the individual.
