SWLI Changes Name to Hawaii Center for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery
The Castle Surgical Weight Loss Institute (SWLI) has recently renamed themselves the Hawaii Center For Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (HCMBS).
Why would the SWLI go through the hassle of changing names, let alone a longer, more confusing title? The simple fact is that bariatric surgery is evolving as we better understand how we help our patients.
All post patients can agree that they did the bariatric procedure to improve their health. The weight loss was nice, but the main driver to undergo surgery was to improve their diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, and many other conditions. We know now that operations work by changing the physiology of the body to improve metabolic functions.
Because of these profound improvements in a patient’s health, we want to represent these changes in our new title. Hence, the addition of metabolic surgery. This is not only a simple name change, but it’s another step towards the medical community accepting bariatric surgery as an excellent and valid option in the care of our patients.
