This trend helps increase access to bariatric surgery while improving public and medical professional awareness. The endocrinology physicians now specifically address the option of bariatric surgery for obese individuals with diabetes.

The American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) released a new comprehensive diabetes management algorithm. This algorithm mentions bariatric surgery in the Complications Centric Model for Care of the Overweight/Obese Patient on page three of the document.
