The Importance of Follow Up Care

The Importance of Follow Up Care
After bariatric surgery follow up care is essential to long term success and health.  Dr. Fowler would like to see all his patients routinely:
  • 1 week
  • 1 month
  • 3 months
  • 6 months
  • 1 year
  • annually for the rest of your life.

Yes, weight loss is the goal, but overall health is most important and can to be evaluated in follow up visits.  At these regular check ups, Dr. Fowler will be making sure patients do not have any vitamin deficiencies. Specific concerns are for low blood counts (anemias) and bone loss (osteoporosis). Both of these conditions can be present without the patient knowing it, until it becomes a serious medical condition.

Specific laboratory values can monitor these levels to ensure safety. If a patient is not taking multivitamins, chances are they will develop a deficiency. Most commercially available vitamins fall short of recommended daily values for post weight loss surgery patients.  Dr. Fowler will recommend the proper nutrition, supplements, and vitamins that are right for you.
